From "Lovable in Lisbon" to "Indomitable in Istanbul", Morrissey has completed a phenomenal tour of Europe in support of his new album "World Peace is None of Your Business". There were a few minor glitches along the way but all in all it was a rousing success!! Our Moz looked great and his voice was more mellifluous than ever. The new songs were stunning live. He even included a song he hasn't sung in awhile, "Suedehead". I wish I could have attended a show or 2 or 3 but unfortunately the USA is too far away. I am very happy for all the lovely fans who were able to see this wonderful extravaganza.
I don't listen to the radio much these days as there is very little music of interest that is played on the corporate stations. I had the local AOR station on for a few minutes. A song came on I had never heard before. It immediately got my attention. It was a majestic, ethereal sounding song. I thought this must be Pink Floyd with David Gilmour on vocals. I got home and did a little research. Pink Floyd has just released an album "The Endless River". Apparently it is a tribute to the late keyboardist, Richard Wright. The song that caught my attention is called "Louder Than Words", it is the only song with vocals on the album. The video for the song is also very well done.
Louder Than Words
I've been listening to World Peace Is None Of Your Business quite a bit lately. I have always thought it was a very good album. After more listens, I think it is a masterpiece. From beginning to end the songs are so strong. The marvelous lyrics along with stunning music, shows the true genius of Morrissey. The song that has caught my attention lately for some reason is "Mountjoy". Mountjoy is a prison in Dublin also known as "The Joy". The lyrics are sad and haunting. It seems to me to perfectly sum up life in a prison or in someones life who feels imprisoned.
Mountjoy
I saw this lovely picture on twitter today. I had to save it so I could look at it occasionally to remind me of summer.
A lovely county road
Seeing the picture of the country road then reminded me of the song "Country Road" by James Taylor. The performance is with the magnificent Carole King at The Troubadour in Los Angeles.
Its a beautiful song.
Tonight Morrissey played a wonderful show at the 02 Arena in London. I wish I could have been there but unfortunately I live in the USA. I am so happy for all the lovely fans who were able to attend. Bravo Mozza!!!
Mozza in his all white attire.
The Queen is Dead!!
Music for the masses.
The 02 as the patrons begin to file in
YAY!!
The people are excited to see Moz!
A Lovely Setlist
My only comment... THIS IS AWESOME!!
I hope Moz and all the patrons enjoyed this enchanting evening in London!
Is this any way to treat an animal? Living tightly packed in a large warehouse. What kind of life is this? Fattened up and slaughtered for "Thanksgiving". Morrissey announced at his concert in Essen, Germany that the holiday should be called "Thankskilling" because of the slaughter of all the turkeys. I totally agree with Mozza. I see no problem having a holiday to give thanks. Why do people need to kill and eat turkeys to celebrate it? The symbol of the holiday is the turkey. So the result is the symbol is killed and eaten? That is so hypocritical and disgusting.
Speaking of killing, the grand jury in the Ferguson, Missouri police shooting of unarmed Michael Brown decided not to indict Police Officer, Darren Wilson. I am very disappointed to hear this. The whole process was wrong. This should have been handled by a special prosecutor. The local DA works too closely with the police and could be biased. The grand jury is just a body to indict. This DA used it almost like a trial to exonerate the policeman. He decided who the credible witnesses were and allowed the policeman to testify for 4 hours. This needed to go to a regular jury trial so it could be transparent. The grand jury proceedings are secret which makes it looks like the fix was in. I don't know every detail of the case but an unarmed young black man was shot and killed by a white police officer. There are too many conflicting statements by witnesses and the officer for this not to go to a trial. There are too many cases like this in this country. Young black men are presumed guilty. As long as this type of thing continues to go on, we are never going to be able to move forward. Race relations will never get better. Mistrust will continue and there will be more of these tragic incidents.
At his concert in Antwerp, Belgium, Our Moz waded in to the discussion of the Michael Brown shooting. He commented about being upset that the police officer was not charged. He also said "Is Obama really black? I don't think so." Mozza!! I don't think President Obama can really do anything but ask for calm at this time in this situation. He is not the dictator. I know he had the Attorney General and the Justice department start an independent investigation. Their findings have not been released yet. It is still possible the policeman could be charged with a crime.
American Dream? Are you kidding me? Its definitely an American Nightmare these days. The elected government is dysfunctional. The idea of our government, is to be of assistance to better the lives of the citizens and to protect common folks from large entities. That's not happening today. Big money, the wealthy and large corporations rule the roost in Washington. The Republican party bows at the feet of their masters and does their bidding. Instead of cooperating with The President, they have done nothing but obstruct any kind of positive way forward. Governing is compromise. These crooked charlatans are serving themselves and big money, the little guy gets squashed. Plus the Republicans just can't stand the fact the Commander in Chief is a black man. Those old white bastards hate that a black man is in charge.
The nightmare continues; endless wars, gun deaths, racism, fear mongering, be scared of everything and everybody, corruption, inequality, misogyny, animal cruelty, greed, cheating, stealing, etc. There is no more American dream, only an American nightmare.
Company's downsizing, inflation's rising
I took this picture Friday morning on my way to work at the VA hospital in Pittsburgh. The beauty of a pristine sunrise. The sadness that day was seeing all the old broken down Vets at the hospital. They served this country in war, the least we can do is give them the best care possible at home.
