England is No One's

Well maybe, possibly England is hers.

In a semi serious note though.  A film has been released about the teenage years of Morrissey.  The title is "England Is Mine" hence my slightly satirical title.

The picture was originally to be titled "Steven" but was changed to a lyric from The Smiths song "Still Ill". "England is mine, it owes me a living".  I was originally interested when I heard about a movie being made about a young Morrissey.  I totally lost interest when I heard Morrissey was not to be involved.  It made me think that this movie would have every dull cliche about Morrissey, "Pope of Mope" etc. I think a movie about Morrissey's early years would be marvelous, but only with him involved.  How can a third party know all the intricacies of Moz's younger years? Of course they can't so they give us stereotypes.

The actor portraying Morrissey is Jack Lowden.  I don't think he resembles Morrissey at all. That's not necessarily a disqualifier but there should be some likeness and he is like 26.  I always find it odd when TV or movies have a mid 20's person pretend to be a teenager.

I will not be seeing this biopic, not that anyone cares. I think one should respect and remember the past but more importantly look to the future. In that vein, I have no interest in a Smith's reunion.  So many people are so big on nostalgia. Those songs and band were and are wonderful.  They were a time and place and influenced a generation.  The songs will live on always and energize countless folks.  I always get a kick out of people who go to see a group that has one member from the original group.  To me nostalgia is a bore and a fools treasure.

I am much more interested in hearing Morrissey's new album that he had been working on in Rome recently. I am also wondering if he will be touring and where it will be.

When Our Moz does go out on tour to support his new album.  I have a humble venue selection.
The Palace Theater in Greensburg, PA.  He has had some bad experiences in Pittsburgh, so Greensburg is about 30 miles away. They do bring in quite a few national acts including Yes, ZZ Top, Paul Anka, B-52's, so why not Mozza!!  How ironic would it be for Moz to play "The Palace"!!
