Divine

 Yes, its been awhile. Our Moz has returned to the place where he rules like no other, the stage. At the Orpheum in Phoenix, Morrissey put on another superb concert for his adoring fans. It always seems the stars and planets align and things are in balance when Our Moz is on tour. There is always an excitement on what will happen at each nights show. He started the show with the gem "We Hate It When Our Friends Become Successful" and finished with the raucous "Sweet And Tender Hooligan". I noticed there was no expansive light show and back drop. It was a stripped down version and I quite liked it.

Our Moz looked dashing in a dark suit, white shirt and bow tie. This ensemble is my favorite for Morrissey. He looks so very distinguished, he could be "The Chairman of The Board" but that's already taken so "El Jefe" will have to do for now. Naturally, Mozza's voice was crisp, mellifluous and soothing, yet terse and sharp when needed.

The set list always seems to be a point of contention amongst Morrissey fans. I am very pleased to hear whatever Our Moz decides to play. Tonight was special to me. He played two songs I never thought I would hear live again. When I first heard the album "Viva Hate", my favorite track was "Little Man, What Now?" and it still is today. To hear and see it on You Tube was divine. I'm one who occasionally will spare a sympathetic thought for a faded teen idol. Call me crazy, call me a loon, I don't care. On top of the world at 18 and by 25 a nobody. What do they do for the rest of their lives? This song is brilliant, the angst, and the haunting "I remembered you". Thank you Mozza.

The other song I was delighted to see on the set list was the cathartic "Rubber Ring". Unfortunately, I could not find a video on You Tube. So I hope the Set List was correct. Mozza has sung little bits of it interspersed with other songs over the years. To me, it is an anthem for those of us who were and are different and had very difficult lives. I sadly remember many a tearful and lonely evening listening to Morrissey and The Smiths. The songs comforted a tortured being and I felt in Morrissey there is another soul in this world who understood what I was going through.

So, what now? Our Moz will head to San Luis Obispo for a Thursday show and over the weekend will be the Cruel World Fest, where he is headliner. Best wishes to Our Moz for more sterling concerts. The Phoenix show was a very incredible beginning to what I hope to be a banner year for Morrissey.
